The new  7 inch  "Lost at Sea - Volume 1" is to be released in February 2006 by the Germany-based Fuzz n' Surf records. This international LP is packed full of reverb as each tune echoes in your ears.  All four tunes are good quality mix of various surf stylings and even a vocal thrown in for good measure.

Cobra Snake Necktie - The Invisible Surfers (Greece)  featuring Unsteady Freddie (USA)
The song opens with a smooth intro by the suave Unsteady Freddie. This is a swingin' surf-a-billy tune that suddenly drops into sensual exotic rhythm for 3-4 measures before jumping back up at you. Nice ending with the funky drum beat.

Pipemind - The Supersonicos (Uruguay)
Creepy, spooky, dark reverb, all these describe Pipemind . It's reminiscent of many of the U.S. east coast psycho -surfer bands, minus the farfisa. But don't be surprised if Pipemind leaves you wanting more. It's a mere 46 seconds long, much like sex with a 20-something yr. old Long Island attorney, only mucho better.

Brainwave - Pozor Vlak (Germany)
This is a melody that creeps up on you. Bless the guy who created the whammy bar! It adds an interesting touch by using dialogue from old movies as part of the song, before diving into a tidal wave of double picking. It combines psycho, pop, and exotica in such a beautiful way that it leaves the listener with a very traditional surf song that is anything but that.

Growfins- The Tommys (Australia)
Opens as a very trad sounding surfer tune with lots of twang, then you are surprisingly hit with a wave of vocals. You can almost see the bass and guitar take a stroll together down the beach & the necks of their instruments as the same time vocals. Although purists will pooh-pooh the vocals, I enjoyed the change of pace on LP.

I eagerly await Volumes 2 through...  as this first record is a delight. ...

The Invisible Surfers (Griechenland) feat.

The Supersónicos (Uruguay) -

The Tommys (Australien) -

Lost At Sea presents four tracks from four diverse bands. No traditionalists here. The songs are all solid and worth chasing down. Three cool instros and one tuff vocal called "Grow Fins" from Australia's Tommys. ****

Picks: The Invisible Surfers 'Cobra Snake Neck Tie', Pozor Vlak 'Brainwave', The Supersonicos 'Pipemind'

The Invisible Surfers - Cobra Snake Neck Tie ***
"Cobra Snake Neck Tie" is a dark song with some interesting guitar nuggets and an almost morose sound. A bit jam-like at times, but certainly more than that. Though this is a track sure named after the line in Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love," it has nothing else in common with thee rock 'n' roll originator.

The Supersonicos - Pipemind *****
Two guitars trade off playing the melody riff while a third plays a damped surf rhythm and glissandoes. "Pipemind" is a short (:44) track with solid bass rumble and excellent drums.

Pozor Vlak - Brainwave ****
Pozor Vlak's "Brainwave" is a combination of exotic and robotic. No, it's not machine music, but the contrast between the guitar tone and the percussion creates the impression of machines on holiday in the Middle East. It's mysterious, deadly, and engaging.

FuzznSurf records presents...

LOST AT SEA,

A great SURF Compilation with 4 bands, the cover is great as also the back
cover what will be special for the greek invisible surfers...

Side A.1.COBRA SNAKE NECK TIE/the INVISIBLE SURFERS,after a great spoken
intro who warns us for some upcoming instro violince...the cobra is a fast and rockin tune with a crazy rockin
beat,in the middle after we can get some breath the ending again stars
rockin aand it all ends with a rockin beat.

Side A.2.Pipemind is uptempo reverb and when it begins it also will end...so
my conclusion:we want more!

Side B.1.Brain wave is a cool psychedelic brain instro...after sometime
speed is closing UP and you end up into a great mix of exotica & space!!!

Side B.2.[Grow Fins] after a nice intro come a vocal number with is someting old to me
and Im not getting into it so this song is for me not so good...

I think 3 out 4,(3 instros) this is wanting for more so hope to get volume
2...

What Is It? Four track 7 inch split EP, featuring The Invisble Surfers (from Greece), The Supersonicos (from Uruguay), Pozor Vlak (from Germany) and The Tommy's (from Australia). The EP is dedicated to the late great Link Wray and, on listening, it's not hard to see why.

What's good? Great tunes. The Invisible Surfers' Cobra Sname Neck Tie (featuring an introduction from Unsteady Freddie himself), is a rockabilly workout; The Supersonicos' Pipemind (Fuzzy Version) is short, sweet and, well, fuzzy. Pozr Vlak's Brainwave is the most "surf" offering here, while The Tommys' Grow Fins is raw and the only vocal number.

Determinedly lo-fi (if you like that kind of thing).

What's bad? Pipemind is so short and sweet you will want to play it again, which is kinda fiddly with vinyl.

Determinedly lo-fi (if you don't like that kind of thing)

LOST AT SEA VOLUME 1 - The Invisible Surfers/The Supersonicos/Pozor Vlak/The Tommys (Fuzznsurf) * * * *

Props to Robert Lastdrager from Melbourne band The Tommys for passing this on. It's the first volume of a planned series and features surf tunes from four globally diverse bands. If you think you've heard all that this genre can offer, this is more fun that it sounds. You can sense the ghostly hand of the late Link Wray on all of these songs, to some degree. "Pipemind" is from Uruguay's The Supersonicos and it's short and slight. The two best tracks are the opening "Cobra Snake Neck Tie" by The Invisible Surfers (USA) and the closer, "Grow Fins" by The Tommys. The Australians actually do what lots of their local forebears did in the '60s and employ (shaky) vocals, also making the most of Ollie Laurie's always sharp guitarwork. If you ever wondered what became of original Died Pretty bassplayer Jonathan Lickliter, The Tommys are your answer. It's a long way from "Landsakes" to St Kilda Beach. Score a copy.

Lost At Sea (FUZZnSURF)

Face it, old-school, fuzz-filled surf garage will never die! This four-way split not only proves it, but re-instils faith in just how far-reaching the genre still is. This seven-inch features one song each by The Invisible Surfers from Greece, The Supersonics from Uruguay, Pozor Vlak from Germany and most notably The Tommys from Australia. Three instrumentals and one vocal track demonstrate one unified, fun-filled twang-surf sound that sounds as fresh here as it ever has.
