THE INTOXICATORS !
Read what Brian Crum told me about the wild ,wild world of THE INTOXICATORS !

THE INTOXICATORS ! feat. Luna Luxx and Buttercup from Dames A'Flame Burlesqueat
at Hukilau 2005 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
1. TES: Can you give a brief history of THE INTOXICATORS ?
1. BC: The Intoxicators!
formed in 2001. The original idea was to be a back up band for a
burlesque show… but our dancers quit before the first show. We had a
sound that was loungier than what we do now. We went through several
personnel changes in 2002 & 2003, and we started playing pure
guitar driven instrumental surf rock…
From there we have been featured performers at Tiki Torch Nights at
trader Vic’s (Atlanta, Georgia), The Drive Invasion (Atlanta, Georgia),
and Hukilau 2005 (Ft Lauderdale, Florida).
Some of the bands that we have played shows with are Th’ Legendary
Shack*Shakers, The Dexter Romweber Duo (Dexter from Flat Duo Jets), Los
Straitjackets, Davie Allan & The Arrows, Deke Dickerson & The
Ecco-Fonics, The Bo-Keys, Robert Drasnin, Waitiki, Haole Kats,
Nashville Pussy, Truckadelic, and The Cogburns.
TES:
Who plays what ?
BC: Gary Evans – lead guitar, Brian Crum – drums, Adam Watson –
bass, George Dyal – rhythm guitar
" TES: How did you
get go-go dancers for your band?"
BC:
"Dames A'Flame Burlesque was scheduled to perform at
the Tiki Torch Nights that we played at Trader Vic's
in Atlanta, Georgia. They liked the music so much...and we liked their
dancing!!! So we asked them to
dance with us at Hukilau 2005.
We hope that we can work with them some more... Maybe
at the 30th anniversary of Trader Vic's Atlanta, in
April of 2006. We shall see..."
TES:What are your main influences ?
BC: The Ventures, Man Or Astroman, Phantom Surfers, Los
Straitjackets, Southern Culture On The Skids, Link Wray,
and Lewis Bailey our spiritual advisor

TES:Where did you got the ideas for songnames from
?
BC: Some of our song titles have come from eating pizza, lack of memory
and forgetting working titles, a broken down car driving past a
funeral, problems with a septic tank inspection, and makin’
babies…
TES:
What was your worst/best experience
on stage ?
BC: The worst experience on stage that we have had was at Waitiki retro
tiki lounge in Orlando, Florida last year. A former member of the band
got up on stage with us to play 2 songs using Gary’s backup guitar… He
hit the Whammy bar at the start of the first song throwing the guitar
completely out of tune…Then he continued to try and play the song for 2
more minutes…
The best onstage experience was at a show at Big Daddy’s in
Tallahassee, Florida. Reverend Vermin from the rockabilly band The
White Trash Messiahs was in the audience, and started pouring an entire
can of Pabst Blue Ribbon down Adam’s throat while we were playing Link
Wray’s song Jack The Ripper… Adam drank most of the beer… and then at a
particular change in the song he spewed beer up in a fine aerosol mist…
almost as if we had choreographed the whole thing… Absolutely
beautiful…

TES:
Any wild backstage parties to report
about ?
BC: No if you know of some let us know… We do have the key to the mini
bar though… Ha!
TES:
Are you the only one who wears a fez
on stage ?
BC: Yes… I’m the only one that wears a fez on stage…

Shack*Shakers March 24th, 2005 in Tallahassee,

TES:
Any plans for tourin europe in the
future ?
BC: We would love to tour Europe… but don’t have any plans to at this
time… Were working on it though… I’ll keep you posted…
TES:
Can you tell me something about the
„Plan Nine From Outer Space Nex Gen“ thing ?
BC: Plan Nine From Outer Space Nex Gen was a movie that someone filmed
a few years ago… I believe that it’s supposed to be a sequel to Ed
Wood’s film Plan Nine From Outer Space. We did some soundtrack work for
the movie. The songs Gary 2, Prostitutes In A Clown Car, Twin Peaks,
and Something About your Wife all came from this…
The movie ran into some problems with special effects… From what I have
heard, the aliens were wearing metallic silver outfits which picked up
reflections off of the green screen…
Supposedly the film has not been scrapped… So someday it may come out…
TES:
How does the surf/rock`n`roll scene
in Florida looks like ?
BC: We think that it’s pretty good… There aren’t too many bands… but
the bands are pretty good…
Here are a few Florida surf bands besides The Intoxicators! to check out
The Cavefish
The Nova Rays
The Reclaimers
Haole Kats
The Vodkanauts

TES:
I read that you released three
limited CDs. Are they still available ? If so, where can they be
purchased ?
BC: The first 2 cd’s are no longer available, but the third one (The
Phantom Mustang EP) is… If anyone wants a copy they can go to our
website and send us an e-mail.
We will be adding a link for cd purchasing at some point… Right now the
only way to get them is by e-mailing us… or coming to one of our
shows…
TES:
Are you goin to release new material
?
BC: We should have a full length cd early next year. It will contain
lots of new material plus studio versions of stuff that was on the
first 2 cd’s…
TES:
Which is your favourite
cocktail ?
BC: Gin & Tonic is our favorite everyday cocktail… The Pina Passion
from the Molokai Bar at The Mai Kai in Ft Lauderdale, Florida is our
favorite cocktail that I’ve had at any place that we have played…
TES:
Are THE INTOXICATORS sportsmen ?
BC: Sometimes…
